Blues back with derby success

Newbury Blues 34 Reading 7

BLUES returned to winning form and edged up a place in the South West One East table with a comfortable derby win at Monks Lane.

They had trailed to Fraser Banks’ early try, converted by Paul Boulard, and had only a Ryan Treviskas penalty to their name at the halfway mark

But Blues upped the pace in the second period with Josh Winfield and Dan Thorne touching down in quick succession, both converted by Treviskas who had earlier struck a penalty and was on target again after debutant Matt Horne had opened his account for the club and he struck again after being set up by Graham Stewart.

Thatcham’s lean run continued with a 23-5 defeat at Stow in the Wold in Southern Counties North after Matt Longdon had put them ahead with a try.

Tadley Tigers also lost, 13-3 away to Berks, Bucks and Oxon Premier Division leaders Milton Keynes and Hungerford suffered their seventh straight defeat in the same division when losing 40-7 at home to Abingdon.
