Ex-Royals join Hungerford for Mortimer's charity day

Alex Pearce joins Bobby Wilkinson's team for the day at Mortimer

FORMER Reading stars Alex Pearce and Mikele Leigertwood will be donning Hungerford Town shirts when the new Vanarama National League South club go to Mortimer on Sunday for the club’s Charity Day.

The ex-Royals favourites will join a near full-strength Hungerford squad for a game against a Mortimer Select XI as Hungerford pay a tribute to chairman Ade Keep and his club, who regularly provide pre-season and in-season games for the newly promoted Crusaders.

“We want to thank them for everything,” said Hungerford manager Bobby Wilkinson, “and when I put it to the players they said ‘we'll be there, gaffer'.”

Pearce, now with Derby County, and Leighterwood, who is on Hungerford’s coaching team, will have run-outs on a day that also sees team of former Mortimer favourites line up at 12.30pm as a curtain-raiser to the main match at 2.45pm.

The all-day event is set to attract a bumper crowd to the Alfred Palmer Memorial Ground, where a BBQ and refreshments will be available throughout the event that is sponsored by David Cliff Estate Agents and Budgens.
