Josh Helmore - midweek double
THATCHAM Town coasted into the next round of the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup with a 3-0 win at Tuffley Rovers in midweek.
A goal-less first half produced few chances although Nile O’Meally-Newell went through only to shoot wide and goalkeeper Dave Evans had to touch over a Tom Melledew free kick
But Town went on to dominate the second period for long spells, making as double breakthrough within six minutes of the re-start. the breakthrough fur minute after the re-start when Evans could only parry Callum Willmoth’s shot and Josh Helmore snapped up the rebound and two minutes later, Jemel Johnson was first on hand to snap up a loose ball.
Tuffley’s comeback hopes all but ended when they had Gareth Jones sent off and Helmore promptly added his second to leave the rest of the tie as a formality.
Thatcham return to league action on Saturday when Highworth Town are the visitors to Waterside Park.
