VETERAN racing driver David Jones claimed the points he needed to win the Monoposto Championship after the final two rounds at Snetterton.
The 69-year old from Newbury’s Highfield Road had claimed points at each round of the championship with four rounds to go, and in the penultimate meeting at Silverstone, had to start at the rear of the grid due to a coil failure.
But he managed to score well enough to take an eight-point lead into Snetterton’s two races, the first of which saw his 1982 Van Diemen RF82 spin on oil but managing to keep going and retain his advantage into the final race in his classic Formula Ford.
That race saw him finish fifth, and that was enough to clinch the crown and the trophy, which will be presented at Daventry in the new year.
