Stefan Brown - chance cleared off the line
Hungerford Town 0 Poole Town 1
MARVIN BROOKS’ 92nd minute goal have Poole a late win that had always looked increasingly likely to happen in the second half at Bulpit Lane.
Brooks glided across the box to head home to head home Sam Surridge’s free kick from wide on the left to punish the home side for too much second half sloppiness in giving away possession, and The Dolphins needed no beckoning to swoop for the points that took them into the heart of the Vanarama National League South play-off places.
Hungerford had their chances, particularly in that second period. They had the edge in a goal-less first period when Poole left Surridge alone up front and he wasted their best chance when heading straight at George Legg.
Louis Soares ballooned over a half-chance for Hungerford, and in stoppage time, Nat Jarvis met Luke Williams’cross but his powerful header flew just over the bar.
Lewis Lindsay wasted a decent shooting chance for the visitors after the re-start before Hungerford enjoyed a spell of control that should have yielded something. Jarvis met a James Clark cross at the near post but could not get the power to turn it past goalkeeper Nick Hutchings, and the striker also mis-directed a header backwards from the far post when picked out by Luke Williams.
Hungerford had their best chance when Williams got away to cut the ball back for substitute Stefan Brown, but Will Spetch got back to clear his effort off the line.
Poole upped their momentum in the final quarter however as Hungerford laboured to keep possession and Poole probed almost relentlessly until winning that free kick, and the increasingly influential Surridge directed his delivery perfectly for Brooks to glance home on the run and hand Hungerford a third home defeat of the league campaign.
