Cornish visit comes first for champions

Berkshire celebrate another wicket against Cheshire

BERKSHIRE will open their defence of the Unicorns Counties Championship with a home game against Cornwall at Wargrave from June 4-6.

Wargrave, who hosted a one-day game last season, offered their ground after Henley opted to take a break from staging a three-day match, while the other home fixtures will see Berkshire face Wiltshire at Falkland and Herefordshire at Finchampstead with trips to face Wales, Oxfordshire and Devon.

The Unicorns Trophy sees Berkshire take on Devon at Henley and Cornwall at Wokingham, with group trips to Oxfordshire and Dorset.

The traditional season-opener against Wiltshire for the Marlborough Cup will be played at North Maidenhead on April 16.

Berkshire found it difficult to choose a player of the year for 2016 and jointly awarded the Palmer Cup to wicket-keeper Stewart Davison and pace bowler Tom Nugent.

All-rounder Euan Woods was the most improved player and batsman Jack Davies the young player of the year in the awards presented at the annual dinner held at the Henley club.
