Tuttle takes charge with community aim
Former Spurs defender Tuttle was unveiled as the club’s new number one this week and will be on the line for the derby meeting at Faraday Road, which kicks off at 7.45pm.
“If we win, I’ll be in charge,” he joked, “but if we lose, I don’t take over until Monday!”
Tuttle, whose pedigree includes playing spells at Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and Millwall, also managed the latter club and had a brief spell as caretaker boss at Swindon as well as working for both clubs’ academies, and he is keen to promote his new club’s youth potential.
“We want to build up the club from the under eights right through to the first team.” he said, “and make it a real community club again.
“There are some good youth players here already and we shall be looking to bring those through into the first team.
“But we need the local council’s help because we need another lease on the site, possibly a 10-year lease or even more to get people involved.
“It’s hard to do that when we have only a year or so on the lease because people don’t know where the club is going to be.
“But with a long lease, we can start building a football club, because that is what Newbury is missing.”
