Sporty pupils recognised at annual Trinity School ceremony
Commonwealth Games athlete Emelia Gorecka and Olympic British rifle shooter Richard Brickell were among the 300-strong audience that turned out to watch as the award winners were announced.
Scott Etherington, who has recently rowed the Atlantic Ocean, gave a motivational speech to pupils, while guests were also treated to a performance by the school’s year nine gymnastics group.
Year 11 100m sprinter Ben Josey was stole the top title of Sports Personality of the Year 2014, and said he was “delighted and honoured” to receive the accolade.
In second place was 16-year-old Joe McCarthy, a county finalist in 200m sprints, and in third place was Micha McAfferty, aged 15, who qualified for the county netball trials.
Chloe Whatley, aged 15, took home the sporting leadership award.
Awards were also presented to one male and one female pupil in each year group who had demonstrated all round attitude and excellence in sports.
Connor Buckland and Amy Hutchins took home the trophies for year seven, Dominic Ings and Kiah-Jay Stevens for year eight and Aaron Duncan and Mia Jones for year nine.
Meanwhile, the year nine rugby team and year 10 netball team were named teams of the year.
