St Bartholomew's officially appoint headteacher
Christina Haddrell, who has been acting headteacher since 2009, has been officially appointed at the Newbury school
ST BARTHOLOMEW's School in Newbury has officially appointed a headteacher who has carried out the role for the past two years.
The school's governors have appointed the headship to Christina Haddrell, who has been acting headteacher since 2009.
Chairman of the governors, Ian Campbell, said: “Christina has been extremely successful in leading the school through the changes which culminated in the move to the new school buildings last November, and we are delighted she has been successful in the selection process.”
Mrs Haddrell said: “I feel enormously privileged to continue working with such wonderful students, their parents, our dedicated staff and governors, taking the school forward from strength to strength.”
A sustainable rebuild of the school, predominantly funded by a £32m Government grant, is now in the second phase and which will provide the school with outdoor sports facilities including a synthetic turf pitch and multi-use games area.
Phase one of the project was completed in November last year (2010) when the school moved into its new buildings.
“Students are already benefiting from being located on one site and learning in large, light and airy classrooms each equipped with SmartBoard technology,” said Mrs Haddrell.
Other features of the new buildings at St Bart's include one of the country's largest green roofs which covers each of the blocks, along with a biomass boiler that uses recycled wood chips to provide a low carbon source of energy.
