St Bart's welcomes royal visitor
The Countess of Wessex unveiled a plaque to mark the official opening of the Newbury school's redevelopment
A NEWBURY school welcomed a royal visitor today (Wednesday) to mark the official opening of its new buildings.
The Countess of Wessex visited St Bartholomew's School in Andover Road, where she unveiled a plaque to mark the official opening of the school's redevelopment, which received £32m of Government money through the Building Schools for the Future programme.
The school moved into its new accommodation last November, but The Countess' visit marked the formal opening in a ceremony attended by representatives from the building contractor, Willmott Dixon, architects Scott Brownrigg, staff and pupils from the school and a number of local dignitaries.
During her visit, The Countess was also given a tour of the school, visiting a number of lessons where she saw students of all ages and abilities to see how the new buildings had helped their learning.
