St Gabriel's hosts maths challenge for local schools

Year four and five students from 12 local schools took part in a maths challenge event held at St Gabriel’s last month.

Hosted by Douglas Buchannan, who runs a variety of educational challenges for schoolchildren under his DCBEAGLE moniker, the team competition saw pupils solving a variety of tricky yet fun puzzles.

The winners for the Year 4 challenge (which took place on Monday, February 7) were The Winchcombe and Falkland with the runners up being St Finian’s and Enborne, and in the Year 5e challenge (on Friday, February 11) Bucklebury and St Gabriel’s were the winners, with Great Bedwyn and Bucklebury being the runners up.

One of St Gabriel’s junior school pupils said: “I really enjoyed the maths challenge. The teacher made maths a lot of fun and I liked having lots of different schools visiting St Gabriel’s.”

Alongside the winners and runners up, the other schools that took part were Overton Primary School, Hungerford Primary, Kingsclere Primary, Burghclere Primary and Welford and Wickham Primary.

Ms Williams, a teacher at St Gabriels, said: “It was wonderful to welcome these primary schools to St Gabriel’s after a two year absence.
