Stallholders to spread festive charity cheer until end of Christmas market
Owner of Weaver’s Walk business Just Add Grapes, Greg Brighouse, and Simon Carr, the owner of Bridge Street deli Oldbury’s, clubbed together to take a Christmas chalet in the market, which this year surrounds St Nicolas’ Church, with a pledge to donate all their profits to bereavement charity Daisy’s Dreams, homeless charity Loose Ends and the Thatcham-based Community Christ-mas.
However, Mr Brighouse said that the market had not had enough footfall to kickstart their fundraising so the two stores had put together two hampers of products to raffle, with tickets costing £1 per strip.
The pair have set their fundraising target at £300, to be split equally between the three charities, and have pledged to top up the amount from their own pockets, if needed, to meet their target.
Now, with just four days left until the market closes on Sunday, Mr Brighouse said it looked like they would be paying the majority of the £300, and is appealing to the public to visit their stall.
“We would love to have your help in supporting our local communities this Christmas,” said Mr Brighouse.
“Please come and see us at Newbury Christmas market to get involved in our raffle, with the chance to win one of two beautiful Christmas hampers.
“We wish you a warm and joyous Christmas.”
