Still time to enter Newbury Carnival
With only nine week’s to go until the popular parade passes through the streets of Newbury, organisers are urging people to get involved in the afternoon of fun.
This year’s theme is ‘Travels in Time - past present and future’ and entrants have seized upon the theme with 43 confirmed entries so far.
The event will be opened by Mike Nova as Elvis, who is back by popular demand after the last carnival in 2011, and will feature a Scottish pipe band, Morris men, classic cars and a fly past from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Newbury Carnival chairman, Bryan Harper, said: “This year’s event is now only nine weeks away and things are really coming together.
“Some of our paraders are really taking this year’s theme to heart and that’s fantastic. We’re always amazed how imaginative people are in putting their entries together.”
The event will begin at 2pm in Pound Street on July 14 and end in Victoria Park where a fete and funfair will keep the crowds entertained.
Organisers are still accepting bookings for the parade and fete, which charities can enter for free for the first time, and to find out more on being part of the event visit www.newburycarnival.co.uk
