Stock room fire in H&M Parkway

A spokeswoman for Berkshire Fire and Rescue, Nicole Targett, said they were alerted to the incident at 8:13am, with pumps from Newbury, Hungerford and Whitley Wood attending.
Staff at the store were evacuated, but surrounding stores were unaffected.
The fire was put out by 8:46am, aided by the activation of the store’s sprinkler system, but fire fighters remained at the scene to help remove damaged stock from the premises.
Ms Targett added: “This premises had a sprinkler system installed. It activated and worked very effectively an in this case has done an extremely great job and prevented a much more serious fire from occurring.”
The store will remain closed for the rest of the day while the affected areas are cleaned, but other businesses in Parkway are open as usual.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
