Stockcross prepares for two-week festival
The festival has been organised to showcase all the village has to offer and will provide a celebration of local talent, arts, music, culture and sport.
Details of the festival, which will host more than 35 events across nine different venues in the village, were announced at its launch at the Village Hall last week.
Festival organiser, Viv Wilson, said: “Stockross is a close-knit and vibrant community and Stockfest 2013 is a chance to show everyone that spirit.
“There aren’t many villages that are able to boast a five star hotel, golf course, pubs and a post office and I can’t wait to show people what we can offer.”
Highlights of the festival will include a performance from local Folk-pop singer Gaz Brookfield, who has toured with the likes of Newton Faulkner and will perform a set at Glastonbury later this month.
Villagers will also have the opportunity to receive free tennis coaching from a qualified coach at Stockcross Tennis Club.
The Vineyard at Stockcross, the village’s five star hotel and restaurant, will be providing a touch of luxury by hosting a quintessential afternoon tea party.
The picturesque grounds of Stockcross House will provide the backdrop for a special ‘Evening in the Garden’ event, where guests will be entertained by the Kennet Opera.
Elsewhere, The Rising Sun pub are inviting people to test their knowledge with a pub quiz, while a scarecrow trail will take place throughout the festival.
The Deanwood Park golf course is providing the fun by offering half price green fees to anyone in the village and those brave enough to dress up as one of the band ‘The Village People’ will receive a free burger for their efforts.
