Stockcross sports pavilion gets £50,000 windfall for facelift

Speen Parish Council and AFC Newbury Boys and Girls football club have secured Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund after successfully completing a rigorous application process.
The cash will be put towards a brand new facility to enable local boys and girls to continue to play grassroots football.
Other members of the local community will also benefit because Speen Parish Council has plans to use the new building to its capacity.
AFC Newbury chairman Paul Rodgers said: “We are delighted to be given this opportunity by Sport England and are very much looking forward to working with Speen parish council in this new venture. Our members will all benefit from this new facility and our plans for the future can now be fulfilled.”
Speen parish council chairwoman Meg John said: “We’re pleased to have secured this investment for the recreation ground in Stockcross. Whereas the recent dedication of the ground under the Queen Elizabeth II Fields in Trust scheme commemorated the diamond jubilee, this award will go towards providing a lasting legacy in Stockcross to mark the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games."
The Inspired Facilities fund is part of the £135 million Places People Play legacy programme that is bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country.
Every sports facility that receives funding will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark – celebrating the link to the games.
