2-day Christmas break: Wilko, Aldi, Sainsbury's, Marks & Spencer and Waitrose among Newbury stores to close on Boxing Day
All Wilko stores across the UK will remain closed on Boxing Day, to give their employees more time with their loved ones at home.
The retailer – which has a store in Northbrook Street, Newbury – follows a number of national supermarkets who have already made the announcement.
Sainsbury’s, Aldi, M&S and Waitrose have all confirmed they too will shut for a two-day Christmas break this year.
A Wilko spokesperson said: "As a family-owned retailer, Wilko understands the importance of spending quality time with loved ones and, after such a difficult year, Wilko has decided to give all its team members a day off on 26th December to spend with their families this Christmas."
Other retailers taking the two-day break include Poundland, Home Bargains and Pets at Home, which will be closing all its retail stores and grooming salons.
It means many shoppers will need to wait just one day more before they can hit the Boxing Day sales this year.
