Storm Angus headed for South and South East England

Warning of high winds and heavy rain for up to 9 hours

THE MET Office has issued a severe weather warning affecting South and South East England this evening (Sat), overnight and tomorrow morning.

The amber warning (be aware) is due to Storm Angus bringing a spell of heavy rain and very strong winds, expected to swing across Southern and South Eastern parts of England during tonight and tomorrow (Sun) morning.

Gusts of 45 to 55 mph are likely inland and 60 to 65 mph near the English Channel coasts.

The strongest winds will affect coastal counties from the Isle of Wight eastwards, where 70 to 80 mph gusts are possible and a higher, amber warning applies.

The Met Office advises drivers to be aware of likely difficult driving conditions, due to localised surface water, flooding and possible debris from trees.

Storm Angus is set to move North East across Southern and South East England tomorrow (Sun) morning, accompanied by heavy rain starting in the west on Saturday evening and very strong winds.

Some 20 to 30mm and locally 40mm of rain is expected in a six to nine hour period.

Conditions are expected to improve from the west during the morning and early afternoon.
