Storm Ciaran weather warning in place for West Berkshire and North Hampshire

Residents are being warned to be prepared as the district looks set to be battered by Storm Ciaran later this week.

A yellow weather warning for both wind and rain is in place for West Berkshire and North Hampshire on Wednesday and Thursday.

The warning for “very strong and potentially damaging winds” is in place from 9pm on Wednesday through to 11.59pm on Thursday, while the warning for rain extends from 6pm on Wednesday until 11.59pm on Thursday.

The Met Office warns that the heavy rain is likely to bring further disruption with cancellations to trains and buses and flooded roads possible.

It also said that the strong winds on Thursday could damage power lines.

“Periods of heavy rain or showers are likely to affect much of the UK from late Wednesday through Thursday,” the Met Office warning adds.

“The highest rainfall are likely in southern and western areas where a further 20 to 25mm is possible quite widely, and especially over high ground, where 40 to 60mm could fall in this period.”

There is already a flood alert in place for the River Pang, from East Ilsley to Pangbourne and Sulham Brook.

The Environment Agency alert warns that “flooding is possible in this area”.

The flood alert area is along the River Pang from East Ilsley to Pangbourne, including Compton, Hampstead Norreys, Frilsham, Bucklebury, Stanford Dingley, Bradfield and Tidmarsh; and the Sulham Brook from Theale to Pangbourne, including Sulham.
