Strawberry Hill House on the cards for amalgamated central doctors' surgery

Pressure on space and existing facilities at St Mary’s Road Surgery and Northcroft Surgery, which between them have in the region of 21,000 patients, has prompted plans to move into one, larger centre.
And the surgeries face limited options for a new centre with its new location having to fall within the same catchment area as present, with Strawberry Hill House being put forward for the scheme.
St Mary’s Road Surgery general practitioner, Maria Hind, said that there were currently around 12,000 patients registered there, around twice its original intended capacity.
“We are working in buildings which were designed some 35 years ago when the population of Newbury was a lot less than now,” she said. “We are unable to extend our surgery any further.”
