Streatley school keeps its good rating
The education watchdog found that the achievement of pupils, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management to be good, following a two day inspection of eight lessons last month.
The Ofted rating runs from outstanding to good, to requires improvement to inadequate.
The report highlighted that children continued to make good progress as they were well taught, enjoyed school and had an enthusiasm for learning, with attainment in English and mathematics above average at the end of Key Stage 1 and 2.
Inspectors also found that headteacher, Chris Prickett, worked closely with staff and governors to improve the school in the face of a number of staff changes.
The school missed out on an outstanding rating because inspectors found that some marking did not provide pupils with enough advice, ‘awkward’ access to the outdoor area limited learning opportunities, and, occasionally, the way classes were managed allowed ‘too much chatter’.
To improve, inspectors said that teachers should manage classroom behaviour so that pupils would not be distracted by talking and that marking should consistently offer clear advice on how work could be improved.
Mr Prickett said, "I am delighted that we have maintained 'Good' status and with all the positive comments about the great learning environment our school provides. Improved access to the outdoor area is something we had already identified as the next step on from our successful relocation of the Foundation Stage classroom and we are currently assessing quotes for the addition of a door."
West Berkshire's Executive Councillor for Education, Irene Neill (Cons, Aldermaston) said: "This is a great result with work already underway to help achieve an outstanding grade following the next inspection."
