Street theatre rolls into town

Innovative circus street theatre company Acrojou will be performing two shows in Newbury Market Place, on Sunday between 1.40pm and 4.40pm.

Combining acrobatics and bold metal structures, Acrojou create inspirational contemporary circus which has been performed worldwide. The company’s work is driven by a passion for communicating through physical storytelling, at the same time defying gravity with their stunning acrobatics. Currently in the development stage working at the Corn Exchange and New Greenham Arts, Acrojou plan to test their new show Frantic on the discerning Newbury public – a little like a comedian bringing their work-in-progress tour to the auditorium. Frantic is an impassioned study of our devotion to ‘busyness’ – the explosive reality of a constantly running mind and one man’s thirst for escape. Acrobatics and dance-theatre choreographed around a giant structure, Frantic uses a rich physical language to pull apart its subject. They will also be performing their current touring show The Wheel House, a story which unfolds inside and around the giant wheel as it rolls along at a gentle pace, featuring comedy, theatrical acrobatics and breathtaking moments of risk, all housed within an exquisite, hand-built structure. Acrojou – graduates of London’s Circus Space Jeni Barnard and Barney White, have so far toured to 13 countries, have been broadcast on national television in the UK and Israel, and featured in newspaper and magazine articles in the UK, Asia, Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Russia and the Czech Republic. Acrojou will be performing their two shows as part of the Corn Exchange Outdoor Programme – Frantic will be performed at 1.40pm and 3.20pm, and The Wheel House at 2.40pm and 4.20pm.
