Strong winds expected across London and South East on New Year’s Day
Strong winds are likely to cause some disruption for those travelling on New Year’s Day.
A yellow weather warning has been issued for London and the South East between 7am till midnight on Wednesday, January 1.
An area of low pressure is expected to track across England and Wales, with strong southwesterly winds on its southern flank.
The strongest winds are expected across coastal regions in the west and south of the warning area, where gusts of 65-75mph are possible.
Inland gusts will typically be in the 40-50mph range, but a brief spell of 60mph gusts is possible during the afternoon.
This could result in delayed journey times or cancellations for those travelling via road, rail, air or by sea.
And there is also a slight chance of damage to buildings, power cuts, road closures and danger to life from flying debris
What can I do?
The Met Office is advising people to secure loose items on their property, such as bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds and fences.
They can also make sure they have a sufficient supply of torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
And please check for delays before you travel.
