Calcot choir sparkle and shine at Christmas charity sing-off

A school choir has helped to spread some festive joy at a Christmas charity concert.

Year 4 to 6 pupils at Calcot Junior School rounded off the term with an evening choir performance at Reading — and all in the name of charity.

As winners of the ‘Let’s Sing Reading’ competition in March, the almost 60-strong choir entertained a packed audience of around 600 guests with classic Christmas carols and seasonal favourites on Friday, December 8 at Reading Minster Church.

“It was really lovely,” said headteacher, Florence Rostron. “The children thoroughly enjoyed performing in the concert.”

The choir has been busy practising for the NHS Christmas concert every Friday morning before school since mid-November.

And they are not stopping there.

The choir will be performing again at Sandhurst this Sunday and at Highview Day Centre in Reading on Friday, December 22.

The choir also achieved previous success in local competitions and at the Hexagon and Anvil theatres.

All proceeds from the Christmas concert will support the Royal Berks Charity, which provides invaluable support to the wards and departments of the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
