Anytime Fitness closes doors for final time – with many members finding out on Facebook

A Newbury gym has closed its doors abruptly and without notice.

Anytime Fitness, in Parkway Shopping, closed at midnight on Sunday, posting the decision on Facebook before apparently letting members know.

The post on social media stated simply: “Dear members. It is with a heavy heart we regret to inform you we will be closing our doors at midnight tonight.

“Please look out for an email from us for more info.”

It is thought there are around 900 members at the town centre club.

A spokesperson for abrdn, which owns Parkway Shopping, said: “We were very surprised to see Anytime Fitness close their doors on Sunday morning.

“We have been in detailed discussions with their franchisee to enable them to keep the doors open and provide a service for their members but unfortunately, the franchisee has decided to close.”

A number of members have contacted Newburytoday and posted on social media voicing their upset at the sudden closure and lack of communication from the gym.

As of yesterday (Monday) the entrance to the gym was blocked off.
