Crowds enjoy summer fair fun in the sun at Newbury's Shaw House
Hundreds of people enjoyed some fun in the sun as Shaw House Summer Fair made a welcome return this year.
More than 60 stalls – showcasing local crafts and activities – were set up in the grounds of the Newbury manor house as the fair was held for the first time since 2019 due to the pandemic.
The hot weather did mean a slight change to the programme, but it didn’t stop the visitors flocking into the Elizabethan mansion to enjoy all that was on offer.
Before the event on Sunday, the Dog Show ¬-¬ hosted by the National Animal Welfare Trust –as well as the bouncy castle and children's ride were cancelled due to the extremely high temperatures.
“We were delighted to host the first Summer Fair at Shaw House since 2019,” said Nik Stewart, Shaw House manager.
“Whilst the very hot weather meant that we had to adapt our plans, hundreds of visitors were able to enjoy browsing local crafts and activities from over 60 exhibitors, including Ugly Duckling Pottery and Creation Station who provided crafts for children.
“Mr Muddle put on a great magic show and music from local musician Giles Stelfox entertained those enjoying some shade by the bar out on the Orangery Lawn.”
There was a variety of food stalls, serving fish and chips and burgers, and a bar to keep everyone cool during the day.
