Stockcross Summer Fete returns for another great year
Stockcross ushered in the warmer weather with the return of its popular village fete.
The village school’s PTFA said they were pleased to report another “great summer fete” held on Saturday, June 10 at the Recreation Ground.
With 22 stalls to visit, there was plenty for everyone to enjoy from a speed gun to find the best footballer, guessing the weight of four lambs from Benham Estate, and the Human Fruit Machine created by Smart Blinds and Shutters.
“The Teddy Tombola was a great sensation thanks to the ridiculously big five foot teddy donated, which all the children wanted to win and none of the parents,” said co-chair of the Stockcross PTFA, Ellen Hunter Smart.
Also popular were the dance demos from MF Dance and live music from Simply Guitar, Berkshire Maestros students and Stockcross Primary School deputy headteacher, Neal Murray.
A bar, BBQ and iced coffee and cakes from the Stockcross Village Stores supplemented the day’s entertainment.
During the fete, visitors were encouraged to bid on the online auction of promises for the chance to win an exciting array of prizes donated by Benham Estate, Donnington Grove, Hawkridge Distillers and Tesco Metro.
The auction closed with bidding totalling £2,150, with a further £1,500 raised at the fete itself.
The Red Arrows rounded off a busy day, flying over as the event closed.
The PTFA said it was grateful to everyone who helped make the day a success and thanked Speen Parish Council for allowing it to park cars at the Recreation Ground.
