'Summer Series' events planned for Newbury town centre
Newbury residents and visitors will be entertained by a free, open-air Summer Series of Events over the coming months.
Newbury Business Improvement District (BID) has scheduled a special programme of live performances, including sets by big-name musicians and DJs.
The series opens with a set by two DJs in Market Place on Sunday between noon and 5pm.
This will be followed, on August 1, by an Acoustic Anthems event, featuring a number of local acts, including an eight-piece jazz band.
This event kicks off at 1pm, and finishes at 5pm.
Disco Shed will make a stop in town on August 15, entertaining crowds with a traditional discotheque experience between noon and 5pm.
And then finally, on August 29, a Big Band Day will see Newbury BID wheel in 24 performers for a nine-act extravaganza between noon and 8pm.
On top of these highlights, a set of Family Fun Days will bring shows, activities and performances to the Market Place, Kennet Shopping centre and Parkway Shopping.
These will take place on July 28, August 11 and August 24, between 10am and 5pm.
Newbury BID operations manager Alison Drummond said: "We’ve been working closely with local businesses and artists to deliver an exceptional series of events available to both residents and visitors from Newbury and beyond this summer.
"Following the final confirmation of reopening from the Government, we’re positive that now is the right time to start slowly bringing back such wonderful events to our town, and we feel more confident now than we have felt at any other time of the year so far.
"It’s essential to host events that are available to everyone, and we’re thrilled to provide seven separate events completely free to all who attend.
"We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners and organisations involved who have collaborated with us to help make this happen.
"Newbury is a fantastic and inclusive place to be, and it’s vital we spread this message to local residents and beyond – especially after the year we’ve had."
Hospitality providers and businesses around the sites involved are to remain open during the festivities.
