Victoria Park family fun day goes down a treat with hundreds of revellers enjoy the sun in the town centre
Record numbers of people turned out to enjoy a sunny family fun day in Newbury.
The Newbury Town Council-run Victoria Park Family Day saw hundreds of people enjoy all the free activities on offer in the park.
The new mayor of Newbury, Andy Moore, kicked off the fun at noon – and even took to the climbing wall to show everyone how it was done.
There was entertainment on the bandstand with the Ragtime Theatre School and local musician
Bruce Hogg, before Watership Brass finished off the day with a spectacular ensemble of popular tunes.
And proving the old ones are still the best, the Punch and Judy shows were a real hit with the little ones, with everyone joining in the fun.
Mr Moore said: “We are so pleased to have been able to, once again, put on this free event for families in Newbury.
“It was such a lovely day and great to see so many people come along and enjoy the facilities and activities we have in the park.”
A free climbing wall and caving adventure proved a great draw, and children were happy to join the queue to have a go.
The 1st Newbury Scout Group were raising funds, providing tasty barbeque treats for everyone to enjoy and Kennet Radio were on hand to keep families entertained throughout the afternoon.
The pedaloes, tennis courts and Rugby Tots sessions were free of charge all day and interested youngsters were able to explore a fire engine and talk to members of the Berkshire Lowland Fire and Rescue Team and the Canal & River Trust.
Everyone was also able to enjoy the other highlights of the park, including the splash park, skatepark and Newbury Adventure Golf.
