Sunday Funday at Newbury Library
Limbo dancing, rock music and Egyptian Hieroglyphs among family activies on offer today (Sunday)
THEATRICAL performances, rock music, limbo dancing and Egyptian Hieroglyphs are just some of a myriad of activities on offer at the 9th Sunday Funday today at Newbury Library.
The event is part of The National Family Learning Festival, and other fun-filled and free-of-charge treats range from arts and crafts, sporting activities, photography, to henna hand painting and Egyptian hieroglyphs.
Highlights this year include Bangers and Mash Theatre Company with two free performances of The Frog Prince, along with a rock music showcase from Newbury Rock School, including the Jammin' Dodgers and The Mini Band - a rock group of local eight to ten year-old budding rock stars who have recently become a hit on the internet website YouTube.com
Local school pupils will also be involved, with singing from The Willows Primary School, Greenham, and The Willink School, Burghfield Common, and a special performance of the Glee Club Show by Trinity School, Newbury.
There will also be a showcase by the West Berkshire Maestros.
Activities will be held throughout the two floors of the library, with other events such as circus Skills, First Aid, volleyball, limbo, and the toy library to spread out into the adjoining car park.
Old favourites such as Monkey Music, spinning and braiding, representatives from the VICI Language Academy and Northcroft Leisure Centre will return this year. Children can also take a look at ambulance, police and fire emergency vehicles.
Last year more than 2,500 visitors attended the funday, for which Newbury Library have received awards and recognition from The National Campaign for Learning.
The Sunday Funday runs from 10am to 4pm.
