Sunshine, thrills and spills at Lambourn's big day out
After a break due to bad weather last year the event, which showcases Lambourn's horseracing credentials, was back with a vengeance.
Former National Hunt Champion Jockey John Francome said: "It's a fantastic day - look at the crowds. I've never seen so many.
"All the work has really paid off. You don't even get this many at the races."
Sunlight glinted on the tabards of the Household Cavalry, who provided a spectacular centrepiece to the day's entertainment with a synchronised musical ride.
Later, the troopers joined jump jockeys and trainers for a relay in the arena, providing thrills and one or two spills.
Television presenter, former jockey and the Newbury Weekly News' own horse racing correspondent, Luke Harvey, said: "Lambourn has the best training grounds in the country now and today is all about showing that."
A delighted organising committee chairman, Mark Smyly, said: "The day has been a great success. Lots of people were thrilled to see Kauto Star at Nicky Henderson's yard. "We have had some huge crowds today."
The crowds also cheered some equine gymnastics featuring a horse named Caspar, who showed an apparent talent for mathematics.
