Suspected arson at Newbury takeaway
Domino's Pizza had to close while firefighters tackled a blaze in a rear storage room today (Sunday)
A NEWBURY takeaway was forced to close earlier today (Sunday) while firefighters tackled a suspected arson in the rear storage room of the store.
A fire broke out at Domino's Pizza on The Broadway at about 9.30am and two pumps from Newbury attended the scene, along with one from Hungerford.
The crews were in attendance for more than an hour, although the fire was put out within about 20 minutes.
A spokeswoman for Domino's Pizza, Georgina Wald, confirmed that there had been a fire at the store, but said no one was injured and that the store had re-opened.
She said: "Fortunately it was confined to a very small room at the back - no one was injured and normal service has since resumed."
Meanwhile, crew manager for red watch at Newbury, Gary Yorke, said the fire was being treated as a suspected arson, adding that police were investigating the incident.
