Suspected arson attack at waste depot
Three lorries targetted in blaze in early hours of Saturday
THREE lorries were set ablaze in a suspected arson attack in Thatcham in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The incident happened at 2.01am at the Veolia easte management depot in Pound Lane.
Spokeswoman for West Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Nicole Targett, said four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hosereels and two jets to put out the blaze.
She added: “The cause is suspicious and Thames Valley Police were in attendance.”
The fire was extinguished by 3.08am and the last appliance left the scene at 4.11am.
Spokeswoman for Veolia, Keely Gallagher, said: “At approximately 2am on Saturday a fire was reported at the Pound Lane depot in Thatcham. Police, fire brigade and Veolia Environmental Services staff attended the scene and there were no reported injuries.
“We can assure residents that waste services have not been disrupted, including to the Bank Holiday catch-up. There are no environmental risks resulting from this incident, which is now the subject of an investigation."
