M4 service station near Hungerford deemed safe after suspected gas leak

FIREFIGHTERS from Newbury and Hungerford were called to a suspected gas leak at Membury Services on the M4 near Hungerford this morning (Tues Jan 31)

According to watch manager of White Watch crew at Newbury fire station, Philip Knight, one fire engine from Newbury and another from Hungerford, a total 12 firefighters, were called to the service station between junctions 14 and 15 at 11am.

“People working there had smelt gas,” said Mr Knight, adding firefighters cordoned off the service station while a hazardous materials officer, specialising in chemicals and gases, inspected the area.

It was then deemed safe, with the incident closed around an hour later.
