Suspected hazardous material incident in Newbury





According to Simon Jefferies, group manager for the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, around 20 firefighters were called at around 5pm today (Thursday ) to M & T Motor Co, Kingsbridge Road, to investigate a suspected hazardous materials incident.
Insp Andy West, of Thames Valley Police confirmed police were called around 4pm, by South Central Ambulance Service, after paramedics who attended an incident involving a man with a suspected heart attack at the garage fell ill, after transporting the man to the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Insp West said police had advised neighbours to keep their windows closed.
The area is cordoned off, but the road remains open.
At the scene is a fire service multi roll command unit, hazardous material vehicle, specialist officers, including a hazardous materials officer, along with specialist teams from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service closed the incident at 8.07pm Thursday (Dec 20).
UPDATE 11am Friday
Thames Valley Police have since confirmed the man in his 60's,who was taken to hospital, has since died.
Chf Supt Andy Standen said: “Local residents do not have anything to be concerned about.
“There is an investigation into a death, which we do not consider to be suspicious."
