Swift launches West Berkshire Christmas toy appeal 2014

The appeal, run by Swift Couriers, works in conjunction with West Berkshire Council to help support families over the festive period.
Attending the launch on Tuesday were children from Parsons Down Junior School in Thatcham, the mayor of Newbury, along with representatives from the organisations involved.
Group managing director for Swift Couriers, Adrian Smith, said: “Each and every December hundreds of Children and Young adults in West Berkshire are in danger of missing something our children take for granted – Christmas.
"Unlike those in formal “care”; these kids come from deprived, “at risk” or “in crisis” family’s and backgrounds and there is no local or central government consideration or financial allowance for their needs at this special time of year.
“Fortunately for these, over the past 8 years you and the people of West Berkshire have been alert to this short fall and have offered what can only be described as a fantastic response to address this desperate need within our community.
"Put simply; without your help and direct action, Christmas would be just another day for literally hundreds of kids in West Berkshire.
"This year I appeal to you once again for your support and assistance in bringing smiles to all the young faces in West Berkshire.”
Donations must be brand-new and can range from gifts for newborns to those aged 19. They must also be unwrapped to allow the children to choose a gift.
The appeal is not just a wish list for toys, as clothing, store vouchers and toiletries can also be donated.
Anyone wishing to donate can do so at Swift Courier, Hambridge Lane, Newbury; Camp Hopson, Northbrook Street; Mothercare, Newbury retail park; All Newbury Building Society branches. Newbury, Thatcham and Hungerford libraries, Legends Barbers in Newbury and Hungerford; Sainsbury’s Newbury; Tescos on the A4, Pinchington Lane and Hungerford and West Berkshire Council offices.
Swift, will coordinate the collection, storage and distribution of the gifts with the support of Social Services and West Berkshire Council.
