Tadley builders' stunt is just the ticket

Gift vouchers disguised as parking tickets

A TADLEY builders’ merchants has had a chuckle at customers’ reactions after tucking gift vouchers disguised as parking tickets under van drivers’ windscreen wipers.

The stunt by Elliotts Builders Merchants, situated on the town’s Brick Kiln Industrial Estate, has seen a few worried brows – before faces crease into smiles.

This was after panicking drivers calmed down on discovering their ‘parking ticket’, turned out to be a £20 Elliotts’ gift voucher

“At first my heart sank,” said Matt Harris, a local building contractor, from PJ Smith Roofing & Building Services Ltd

“I was sure I’d parked my van in the right spot, but when I opened up the notice it gave me £20 to spend at Elliotts, which is a lot better than a fine if you ask me.

“I even called up to check if it was a joke, but they told me to come and spend it in branch, where I also got a free T-shirt.”

“The building game is really competitive, so anyone that is trying to make my life easier is all right in my book.”

Elliott’s managing director, Tom Elliott, said the builders’ relief was evident after they opened their ‘ticket’.

He said: “I have to be honest and say the initial reaction is not always great, but when builders open them up and see what it is, it’s a completely different story.

“The white van man is the backbone of the nation. They’ve been our main customers over the years, and have helped us grow into the South’s biggest independent builder’s merchant.

“We want to give something back to these guys, so we’re putting £20 to spend in the Tadley branch on every working van we can find to help them with whatever they’re building.”
