Tadley man helps secure England victory in home countries clay pigeon competition

Alan Saunders, aged 34, shot 148 clays out of a possible 150, putting him at second highest in the England team and joint third in the whole competition, which featured teams from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
At the end of the two-day competition, held in Mulroy, Ireland, England had won in all categories - men’s, women’s, veterans and seniors.
Mr Saunders, who has been shooting for five years, said: “It’s something that I have wanted to achieve since I started shooting.
“I had to really focus.
“I only started shooting because my partner bought me an hour’s shooting lesson for my birthday and I’ve taught myself from there. Now I shoot pretty much every weekend.”
He qualified for the England team in June, following two qualifying heats.
He will have to qualify again to participate in the competition next year.
