Tadley Treacle Fair 2016 bigger and better

Roll up for Sunday June 5 extravaganza

TADLEY Treacle Fair on Sunday (June 5) promises to be bigger and better this year.

A procession will set off at 11am from Burnham Copse Primary School, in Newchurch Road, to make its way to the fair site, in Saunders Field.

It will be met by the new mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Jane Frankum, who will then open the fair, which raises an average of £8,500 a year for local charities.

Main attractions include the Reading Scottish Pipe Band, Eagle Heights Birds of Prey and performances by Tadley dance group, DancePhaze.

There will be a vintage vehicle parade and, new for this year, the Little Dallas Donkey Rescue Sanctuary will be there.

Aldermaston photographers David and Marion Canning will display their model railway in the craft tent, while fundraising for the charity Cat Protection with the launch of their 2017 Adorable Cat calendar – and will launch a new dog calendar, in aid of the Dogs Trust.

Organised by the Loddon Valley Lions, proceeds of this year’s fair will benefit Macmillan Cancer Care and St Michael’s Hospice.

The Lions have raised more than £600,000 for charity over the last four decades.

Entry costs £3 adults and £1 for children aged five to 16 accompanied by an adult.

n In a competition to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday year, the Lions are offering a family of four free entry to the fair.

Second and third prizes are entry at half price, also for families of four.
