Tadley woman celebrates becoming 104 years young

Big day celebrated with family and friends

A TADLEY woman has celebrated her 104th birthday.

Edith Danby, who spent her big day with family and friends at her home, is pictured with her daughter, Lynda Knight, of Tadley,

Mrs Danby credits her long life to staying happy and has been actively involved in family life until a few months ago, when illness meant she had to spend time in the Countess of Brentnock Hospice, near Andover.

“Thanks to the marvellous care she received there, even having her first-ever jacuzzi bath, Edith has returned home to be cared for by Jess, a dedicated carer from St Michael’s Home Care,” said Mrs Danby’s grandson’s wife, Rachael Knight, of Bishops Green Common.

“She is an inspiration and dearly loved by all who know her, including her daughter Lynda and son-in-law Jim (who celebrated their golden wedding last month), three grandchildren, their spouses and 10 great-grandchildren.”

Recent birthday celebrations included family meals at Sandford Springs Golf Club, near Kingsclere, Sasso’s restaurant in Kingsclere, a tour around Highclere Castle and a stylish lunch at the Ritz, London.

Highly likely to be the oldest person living in Tadley, Mrs Danby is eight years younger than the oldest person in the UK, Bessie Camm, aged 112, of Rotherham.
