Tailbacks after car fire

Emergency services were called to the scene of a road traffic collision near Junction 13 of the M4 today (Tuesday)

MOTORISTS have experienced tailbacks near junction 13 of the M4 at Chieveley this morning (Tuesday), following a road traffic collision in which a car caught fire.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 9am, after receiving reports of a collision between a black Renault Clio and a grey Land Rover Discovery on the roundabout connecting the M4 and the A34.

The Renault Clio caught fire and firefighters used breathing apparatus and a hosereel to extinguish the fire.

No one was trapped in the car, although one person received treatment at the scene for minor injuries.

Two lanes of the northbound exit slip road have been closed for resurfacing work, causing tailbacks in the area, and according to the Highways Agency website, normal traffic conditions are expected from about 8pm tonight (Tuesday).
