Tax scam warning issued by council

The scam email, which appears to be from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and is titled Notice of Tax Return for Year 2012, asks for card details in order for the recipient to claim a tax refund.
West Berkshire Council's executive member for public protection, Hilary Cole, (Con, Chieveley) said: “HMRC are clear that they do not operate in this way.
“People need to be on their guard in order to ensure they don’t find they become a victim of fraud”.
Trading standards manager for West Berkshire and Wokingham, Sean Murphy, urged people to contact the agency if they believe anything to be suspicious.
Those concerned can contact the trading standards helpline on (01635) 519930 or email
