Teachers stage protest as part of mass walkout
As schools close, West Berkshire's teachers will come together in the Market Place today (Thursday) to fight increases their pensions
TODAY is “black Thursday” - the mass walkout by teachers in a fight against changes to their pensions.
To make their point, teachers who are members of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers and the National Union of Teachers, will be out in force in the Market Place from 10am until 3pm to air their grievances about the Government's planned changes to their pensions.
As a result, 19 schools in West Berkshire are fully closed and a further 22 are partially closed.
The teachers are striking against the Government increasing teachers' pension contributions from 6.4 per cent to 9.8 per cent and raising the retirement age to aged 68.
Log back on for coverage of the strikes and to find out what the teachers themselves had to say about why they are taking strike action.
