Team GB horserider part of Ashmansworth charity dressage display

Horseriders at the display Baroque to Team GB included international junior dressage Team GB member, 17-year-old Becky Edwards, who lives near Henley, who rode Lusitano stallion Ufano.
The pair made their international debut for Great Britain at Hickstead in August, where they achieved third place in the Junior FEI class (freestyle to music).
The rain held off for around 200 people who turned up for the performance, organised by Ashmansworth villager Margaret Cox, who was among the five riders, on her Lusitano stallion Novato.
Mrs Cox also owns Ufano and her third Lusitano stallion, Sueste, was ridden by Maria Chegwin, wearing traditional Portuguese costume. The other two riders were Leigh Edwards (Becky’s mother), riding Santa, a German warmblood stallion owned by Carol Weatherall, and Joy Morris, riding her Thoroughbred Sammy.
The theme of the show was the history of dressage, from the courtly art performed by European aristocracy in the 17th and 18th centuries, to the sport of competition dressage today.
After the performance, there was tea, a short service of poetry readings, and hymns and prayers of thanksgiving, led by the Rev Christine Dale.
A total of £884 was raised for the 12th-century church.
While today’s competition dressage, in which Great Britain are the current Olympic champions, dominates the scene, the old classical style still exists in Spain and Portugal and in the Spanish Riding School of Vienna.
