If you went down to Burghclere at the weekend, you would have been sure of a big surprise.
Local children and their families proudly took along their treasured teddies to Burghclere Miniature Railway on Sunday for its third annual teddy bears picnic event.

The railway welcomed a record number of passengers and their teddies to ride the trains for free all day, and a couple of short bursts on rain didn’t dampen the mood of the day.
One of the event organisers said: “Everyone who attended had a wonderful day out.”

Two trains were running for a full five hours, one being a steam locomotive which remained in steam for most of the day and the other being a class 66 diesel locomotive.
Besides the attraction of the trains, there were best dressed teddy bear, colouring and solve the riddle competitions along with cookie decorating, side stalls, a bar, barbecue and a cake stall selling all homemade baked goods.

Olivia, aged 10, won the best dressed teddy competition for her white rabbit which donned a floral skirt, shell necklace and pink bow.
