The 18-year-old, of Pritchard Close, Greenham, is charged with unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm on PC Paul South in Thatcham town centre on October 31 last year.

Magistrates declined further jurisdiction and sent the matter to be dealt with by a judge and, in the event of a trial, by a jury sitting at Reading Crown Court on a date to be fixed.

Mr Bridson was meanwhile released on unconditional bail.
