Teen from Thatcham Mia Mirchandani sings original song at Royal Albert Hall in Future Makers competition
A teenager from Thatcham performed an original song at the Royal Albert Hall last week.
Mia Mirchandani, 17, sang to 6,000 people in an annual concert showcasing young talent from across London.
Miss Mirchandani found the opportunity through her college Rhythm Studios in West London.
She got through a video audition, with an original song called Hypocrite, and a live audition before making it to the finals.
She performed her final song – which she wrote at the age of 14 – at the Royal Albert Hall on October 16.
“It was crazy,” she told Newbury Today after her performance.
“Honestly I was terrified before I went on the stage.
“But then I couldn’t think because all the lights were in my face so it felt more intimate than it was.
“As soon as I started singing all of my nerves disappeared so it was amazing.”
The former Francis Baily pupil said she has been singing since she was little.
When she was nine she appeared in a Disney Life advert after impressing talent spotters.
Mia got the part after seeing a call-out for a big brand TV advert posted on a children’s casting site.
She also started playing piano at around five or six years old before learning guitar, bass guitar and the flute.
“I do a lot of production as well,” she said.
“I went to Pangbourne College on a scholarship.
“When I was younger singing wasn’t something that I was keen one but I was happy to sit behind the scenes and play for other people.
“But I tried it for myself once and I love it so much.”
She and friends also recently won a competition – through college – to record at Abbey Studios.
“The Beatles, Adele and Rhianna have recorded there, which is insane,” she said.
“It is something I want to pursue.
“I want people to hear my music and appreciate it as I do.”
Her mother Fiona Mirchandani said she was hugely proud of her daughter – as were the rest of the family, who all went to support her in London.
Miss Mirchandani hasn’t settled on a genre yet but enjoys R&B and neo soul and has hopes of one day following in the footsteps of R&B star SZA – and looking at her success, there are definitely Good Days ahead.
