Reading Magistrates' Court: Newbury teen accused of witness intimidation

A TEENAGER has been sent to the crown court on a charge of perverting the course of justice by intimidating a witness in another case.

In the dock at Reading Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, June 23, was Leah Marie Foster.

The 19-year-old, of Tanner Court, off Pelican Lane, Newbury, is charged with committing the offence, specifically, by making threats towards Brandon Lee Smith, intending thereby to cause a police investigation to be obstructed, perverted or interfered with.

The offence was alleged to have been committed in Newbury twice, once on November 6 last year and again on November 28 last year.

Ms Foster, who was legally represented by Catherine Brymer, spoke only to confirm her details and to deny the single charge.

Magistrates ruled the the case was so serious that, in the event of a conviction, their powers of punishment could be insufficient.

They therefore declined further jurisdiction and sent the matter to Reading Crown Court to be dealt with by a judge and jury on a date to be fixed.

Ms Foster was meanwhile released on unconditional bail.
