Teenager arrested following racist incident in Newbury
The incident happened on Friday evening, shortly before midnight, in The Wharf, Newbury.
Thames Valley Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward and say that at about 11.50pm, a man was shouting racist abuse at two Asian men in The Wharf, when two white men, aged 52 and 61, intervened and asked him to stop it.
The offender then punched the 61-year-old man in the face. The 52-year-old man came to assist and was grabbed by the offender, but broke free.
The offender then kicked the wing-mirror of the 52-year-old man’s black Honda CRV, which was parked nearby.
Officers attended and a 19-year-old man from Newbury was arrested on suspicion of assault. He has been released on bail until 11 June.
Designated Case Investigator Nicola Rodger said: “This incident happened by the kebab van and the taxi rank, and there were a lot of people around at the time. If anyone did witness this incident, I would like to speak to them.
“I am also keen to trace the Asian men who were being abused by the man and would urge them to contact me.”
