Teenager struck by car now in a stable condition




The driver of the car was interviewed by police but has not been arrested

A 13-YEAR-OLD boy hit by a car in Purley yesterday (Monday) is now said to be in a stable condition, according to Thames Valley Police.

The boy, who was on his pedal cycle at the time of the accident, collided with a Honda CRV at about 4pm yesterday.

The incident occurred at the junction of Oxford Road and Roebuck Rise in Purley.

The 74-year-old driver of the Honda CRV was interviewed by police but has not been arrested.

Both vehicles have been taken by Thames Valley Police for examination.

The 13-year-old was airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with severe head injuries and abdominal injuries.

His condition was described as life threatening but shortly after 10am this morning police confirmed that his condition had stabalised.

He has been transferred from the intensive care unit to a high dependency unit.

Following the collision, a three-quarter-mile stretch of the Oxford Road between the roundabout with Overdown Road and the roundabout with Knowsley Road was closed and diversions were put in place.

The road reopened at about 8pm yesterday.
